Let’s try an experiment…
Open a Word document, and… WITHOUT LOOKING THEM UP… see how many of the four design principles you can list from memory. You will not be graded on how many you remember, so just write as many as you remember.
Refer to The Non-Designer’s Design Book for help.
In the same Word document, make another list of the same principles with the aid of The Non-Designer’s Design Book. Then add a paragraph (three or more meaningful sentences) to explain each design principle in your own words. This is to demonstrate your understanding of each principle. Please remember that good writing skills are important now and throughout your career. Be sure to use proper grammar, punctuation and meaningful content.
Complete the following exercise:
Choose a single shape and create a design utilizing all four design principles. You may draw it, cut and glue colored paper, use clay, blocks, legos, whatever you want to do to construct it (see the examples on this page). Insert a photo of your finished product into your Word document. You may use a camera phone, but be sure you have good lighting, such as near a window, etc.
Save the Word document with 2B and your name. Example: 2BJakeSpencer.docx
Finally, submit your Word document in the 2B Submission drop box under Week 2.
